Early yesterday, I set off on the three mile walk to Sunset Beach. And this time I chose to walk along the access road that parallels Kamehameha Highway. Here one is able to view the front of the homes, whose backs face the beach. This is also where one can experience an amazing variety of exotic tropical flora. Especially “exotic” to one, like me, who has spent the majority of his life in the desert. For the most part I will let these awesome wonders speak for themselves, as they tend to render me rather speechless.
I first saw these dark plum and white birds in Palma, Majorca a couple of years ago. They seem to be everywhere here on Oahu. Previously I had only been familiar with the smaller, green and orange ones found at the florist's. I find these larger ones truly stunning.
These exotic woven palm trunks astound my visual and aesthetic senses. The layers, the intricacy, the colors, the size. Then from seemingly out of nowhere the giant birds will sprout. Pure delight made manifest!
And my jaw drops once more! I am firmly planted in "Palm-Bird Heaven." Thank you, thank you.
Palms fanning the blue sky, and it just doesn't get any better in my book!
Wishing all a wonderful weekend, wherever you are. And until next week, to wide open lenses, and wide open hearts. Love, Glen
